My new calendar is finally ready. Don't worry, it's not too late. This calendar runs from July, 2008 to June, 2009. Also, if you are interested in buying it and you miss getting it before April, I intend to republish with a later starting date. I really wanted to have this calendar of images of Caitlin ready before Christmas 2007, but my work-load was too great and I had to postpone the calendar. As Milena was pondering the veil, I couldn't resist capturing her in her natural state. She was aware of me photographing her, but was actually not posing at all, as I was not directing. I was just watching her and nonchalantly capturing her beauty photographically while we were discussing the symbolism of the veil. Weather a communion veil or a wedding veil, it represents purity and virginity, yet exposed in her pre-pubescent appearance and the fetish bustier, the message becomes much more complicated and specifically poignant to my art. It started out as a real question I was asking myself. I have been feeling very lazy lately, not writing any texts to go along with my photographs. To be perfectly honest, I find doing the photography, really, quite easy. I don't need to say this, but actually, quite pleasurable. Photographing my models as well as processing the images afterward – all pleasurable activities. Maybe it’s easy because it is pleasurable. Writing about the experience is the hard part. I have to step back and look into the scene as an observer, but all the time being aware of the emotions I am feeling, while photographing and working with my models so that I can write about them. The models and the feelings, that is. It occurs to me that on a certain level all my models evoke similar emotions in me. I suppose it is because I am the one that casts them and therefore they meet my own aesthetic requirements and sensibilities. Kind of like having the opportunity to create your very own perfect woman from a catalogue. It is rare that a model that I meet will not appeal to me, although it has happened. I still was able to pull out some great shots from the session. As I said earlier, the photography part is easy for me. But back to my question “Poetry or prose? What will Milena inspire today?” I guess it would just have to be considered as rhetorical. Beauty is always inspiring. So whether one writes words, composes music, paints or photographs, through inspiration, women like Milena have been responsible for much greater beauty on this earth than just their own. As a young teen in the "sixties", the fashion of the day was the source of many a young man's fantasies. Having just discovered the hidden mysteries of femininity were also treasures of pleasure even if only in my imagination, at that time. Long legs in high heels were a pathway – an arrow on a map. Directions to a destination. The promise of ultimate bliss. So we pondered, sought and lusted. To catch a glimpse of the smooth and tender skin that is revealed only to the most privileged and only on that special occasion. A prize awarded only to the most deserving. All, we men, can do is look in awe and wish we could be privy to the fantasy. To understand that which can create such excitement in a woman. It is an age-old secret that only few have had the pleasure to enjoy. The secret that is unexplainable in words. "Love" comes close and yet just doesn't quite do it. Her freedom to be vulnerable. The total comfort to let herself go without inhibition and in complete safety. To feel as if she is one with her surroundings. To let the moment of ecstasy transport her. A short journey it may be, yet as far away from earth as the farthest star. And then the calm after the fury. Soft silence comes upon her and all who are privy to observe in awe. Today I have been un-NIPSA’d I was rather surprised to find out that I was NIPSA in the first place and requested an explanation since I have been moderating my photographs rather diligently. Well here was a surprise. They accused me of tag-spamming. That means that my tags were irrelevant to the images I was posting. Although it is true that I would mass tag in batches, so it wouldn’t be unusual for a tag here and there to be on a wrong photograph, but I never thought that would be a reason for NIPSA. Well, here it is. I was wrong. Anyway, I spent the better part of my free time this week on removing the tags that were assigned to too many photographs. I know I did remove many relevant ones, but I also managed to bring myself into the good graces of the Flickr Police. So now my images are all searchable, although mostly moderate or restricted. Art – restricted…. hmmm. This Sunday will be a photo exchange day between the members of my Photo Seminar Group. We are a group of avid photographers who meet once a month to discuss, critique and share ideas on the art of photography. Once a year, around Christmas time, we make the meeting more festive. We share some wine and food while discussing photography. Then we pick names and exchange photographs. It is a good way to build a photography collection. I think this year we will take the full two weeks off for our Christmas break. Lucky that the holidays fall on Tuesdays. Makes it all so convenient. I think this year we’ll try to make it down to New York City, again. We (Mary and I) love visiting the galleries in Chelsea at this time of year. Who am I kidding? We love visiting NYC any time of year. Almost forgot this photo of Isabella from a shoot last April. I keep coming back to these image files, finding them more and more inspiring every time.
