In 1876, the restaurateur and hotelier Eduard Sacher acquired the building complex behind the k.k. Imperial Opera, today's State Opera. He opened the Hôtel de l'Opéra with a restaurant, bar and café. His son Franz Sacher renamed the hotel and the catering businesses Sacher. From the beginning, the Sacher was one of the best addresses in the City of Vienna. The Café was awarded the "Golden Coffee Bean" by Jacobs in 2004. No wonder tourists queue up to drink their Melange and eat the famous Sacher torte there.
