Wien, Karlskirche / Vienna, St. Charles Church
Built in the first half of the 18th century, the St. Charles Church in Vienna is a listed building. It is located on the south side of Karlsplatz, close to the city centre, and is one of the most important Baroque church buildings north of the Alps and one of Vienna's landmarks. The two columns flanking the church portal imitate the Roman Trajan column, were made of Zogelsdorf sand-lime stone (near Eggenburg) and the spiral reliefs were made by the sculptors Johann Baptist Mader, Johann Baptist Straub and Jakob Christoph Schletterer.
