Der höchstgelegene Leuchtturm Europas.
Der Leuchtturm auf dem Oberalp Pass (2'044 m.ü.M.)
Der Leuchtturm auf der Oberalp Passhöhe (2'044m / 6'700ft) steht in der Nähe der Rheinquelle. Man baute den Turm als Symbol für die Verbindung zwischen Anfang und Ende des Rheins. Der Turm ist die Kopie eines echten Leuchtturms, der einst in Rotterdam an der Mündung des Rheins stand.
Es ist der höchstgelegene Leuchtturm Europas. Und nach dem Leuchtturm in Puno am Titicacasee auf der Grenze zwischen Peru und Bolivien (3'800 m.ü.M.) ist es sogar der zweithöchstgelegene Leuchtturm der Welt :-)
Wasser – das Element des Lebens.
Im Gotthardmassiv entspringen die vier Flüsse Rhein, Reuss, Ticino und Rhone, welche schliesslich in drei verschiedene Meere münden:
– Der Rhein mündet in die Nordsee.
– Die Reuss fliesst in die Aare -> Rhein -> Nordsee.
– Der Ticino fliesst in den Po -> Adria.
– Die Rhone fliesst ins Mittelmeer.
Zu den Quellen dieser vier Flüsse führt der 90 Kilometer lange Vier-Quellen-Weg, den man in Tagesetappen oder in einer zusammenhängenden, fünftägigen Wanderung zurücklegen kann. Der Weg ermöglicht die Entdeckung einzigartiger Landschaften und macht die Bedeutung des Wassers als wertvolle Ressource bewusst.
Zur Verwirklichung und Bewirtschaftung des Weges wurde die Stiftung Vier-Quellen-Weg gegründet.
