Coyote

Coyote
This one was about 50 feet from my door in the woods rooting around for persimmons. It was joined by a huge dark colored one a few moments later, but I was unable to get a photo of that one. Etowah County, Alabama (IMG_1541)

Had one in the backyard last Thursday that had a confrontation with Otis, my dog. I didn't realize it was near. When I let Otis out he spotted it and went berserk. He chased it into the woods, but as he was running back toward the house, the coyote came running back out of the woods toward him. Even though I was yelling and screaming at Otis to get in the house, and jumping up and down on the deck to scare it off, it just stood in the middle of the yard staring at me for several minutes before it retreated to the woods, where it turned around and kept staring at me through the bushes. Eventually, Otis, who was totally out of control, took another run at it and it slunk off. At least Otis had the smarts not to pursue it into the woods. Never-the-less, I was very scared for his safety. He is about the same size as a coyote but significantly outweighed it because it was quite thin. I suspect he may have been able to hold his own if they had gotten into it, but certainly not without damage.

Would have loved to have taken a photo of the critter, it certainly posed well for a couple of minutes, but I wasn't about to get the camera while Otis and the coyote were at a standoff.

Recently bought a game camera, but haven't put it up yet, need to find a good place to put it. Time to get busy and get it up.
