Misericord - Caleb and Joshua
This depicts Caleb and Joshua carrying the grapes from the Pormised Land. Grapes symbolize the Blood of Christ represented by the wine at Holy Communion. On the left and right are blemya, inhabitants of strange lands who have their faces in their stomachs. Carved c. 1489-94. Ripon Cathedral, Ripon, North Yorkshire, England. Scanned 35mm negative.
