St Mary's church at Great Bedwyn where John Seymour, father of Jane Seymour, is buried. The Seymour's were the caretakers of Savernake Forest near Marlborough where Henry VIII would visit to deer hunt and where he met Jane Seymour.

Site of England's First Roadside Petrol Station

On the A4, Bath Rd near Aldermaston train station was the location of England's first roadside petrol station. It was opened in 1919 by the AA and served AA members only by a uniformed AA patrolman. The site was somewhere between the sign and the trees and the much widened A4 is likely now covering part of it.

1993 Orbitel 902 Pocketphone made in Basingstoke, Hampshire by Racal for Vodafone. Ericsson took a 50 % share in the company and ultimately complete ownership of it. The first text message was from Basingstoke to Vodafone in Newbury during their Xmas party. The message from the engineers was--Merry Christmas.

1957 road tax disc issued by Essex County Council for £12/10. U.K. Driving licence issued 11June, 1936. June 1936 was the start of UK driving tests becoming compulsory. The red book licence lasted until March 1973. Then became a computer printout and revised again in 1992, 1998, and 2016. On Dec 4,2017 the driving test will be amended to include using a sat nav.

1939 Austin 10 Cambridge bought new in Huddersfield by Florence Baddeley of Baddeley Bros. buses and coaches. She kept the car at her home in Honley, West Yorkshire until her death in 1983, by which time it had covered 15,000 miles from new.
