Milk Bottle

Whately, MA. Here's what www.roadsideamerica.com has to say: "There is a 17 foot high cement milk bottle on the main road in Whately. Built in the late 1920s by Lincoln Bond for the Quonquont Dairy Farm's dairy bar, the bottle once stood on Rt. 5, greeting visitors to the area. In 1995, the bottle, which is owned by the Whately Historical Society, was moved to its present site and restored. It is now situated in front of the town building, which houses the Historical Society and is used several times a year to dispense ice cream." See where this picture was taken. [?]

Tobacco Drying #2

Whately, MA. After the tobacco is harvested in late summer, it's hung to dry in tobacco barns that you see up and down the Connecticut River Valley. See where this picture was taken. [?]

Tobacco Drying #1

Whately, MA. Shade tobacco, used for the outer wrapping of cigars, is grown in the Connecticut River Valley under silk tents. The summer climate here most nearly replicates that of Honduras, the primary growing spot for this type of tobacco, of any place in North America. See where this picture was taken. [?]
