This pub doesn't look impressive on the outside, but apparently inside it's a nice local boozer awarded CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) North London's Winter Pub of the Season, beating off hundreds of other pubs in the area. Named after Charlotte Despard (born Charlotte French) - 1844 to 1939 - a British born, later Irish based, suffragist, novelist and Sinn Féin activist. Having started off as writer of ten novels she was later imprisoned for her political beliefs. Here's her story: thecharlottedespard.blogspot.com/p/about-charlotte-despard.html
