New Fan & Light
Recessed can light going in over the laundry area. Replacement ventilation fan going into place (just a fan -- the old one was a fan-light combo, which was noisy and ugly). Next, the popcorn will be scraped off the whole bathroom ceiling, and a plaster skim coat put on. The plaster will cover the water stain.

ah...if that's woodchip paper you'd better plasterboard over it, or the skim will be down on your head one day....but then perhaps you know that by now...

It's sheetrock (a.k.a. drywall or gypsum board). Not sure what you call it in the UK. The plaster skim has held up just fine for a year now. Fingers crossed.
