It seems likely that this square three storey structure was originally erected as a watch tower. From surviving relieving arches it appears that the building at one time had four two light windows on the middle floor and possibly a door opening on the south-west elevation. Cared for by the National Trust and is free to visit. The area of these three pictures is called Plox. The River Brue runs between it and the town, with many steep alleyways, on the other side of the river, leading up to the High Street. King's Bruton is an independent, fully co-educational, secondary, boarding & day school. Boy and dog...dog was soon in the water!

Okeford Fitzpaine, Dorset.

On this day in 2014 I was driving Sophie to see her other gran, when I remembered this old post box and made a small detour...She was not very impressed as you can see! It is the oldest post box in England (1853) and I believe it is still in use. It is octagonal and has a vertical, hinged opening. Made by John M Butters, Gloucester.

This was taken in Stoke Trister on a recent walk. The village is in Somerset but the view is across the border to Dorset. This was taken on a very dark & misty rainy day in 2016. I thought the pictures from the most beautiful bluebell forest in the area would be rubbish, but the mist turned out to give a lovely backdrop to the flowers and trees....I did get very wet though!

On past the church and down into the village of Stoke Trister, I passed this house with a small opening in the outside wall. I wonder if it was once a farmhouse and something was sold from there. Maybe milk, butter or cheese. I need to find out! The PiP is the white cottage you see in the main shot.
