The Underside
Taking shelter yesterday from torrential rain under The Buttercross, in Somerton.
350 years ago the market place was a busy and noisy area during market day, and in extremely hot weather the dairy products such as cheese, butter and milk soon went off and on wet days these goods could also be ruined; a shelter was required that would shade and cover the products from all weather conditions. Built in 1673 the Buttercross was the ideal solution, as it was both cool and dry. It is now listed as a Grade II ancient monument, and is used as a peaceful place to sit and contemplate and as a useful bus shelter!!
Apologies for my long absence ...

MaggsMep club has replied to William Sutherland clubThis is a very well composed and nicely exposed shot. The colour and textures of the wood are beautiful and you've captured the detail perfectly.
