My grandson's 18th birthday is definitely December magic.

Top left is around his fourth birthday and about the time he decided that pancakes tasted too good to be reserved only for Shrove Tuesdays, and that all family birthdays should be celebrated with them too. Right is him posing beside the cooker holding the skillet that my daughter was cooking his pancakes in!

He's a young man I'm so proud of; on the autistic spectrum, he's learned how to navigate his way through the neurotypical world brilliantly, already has four university offers, and had an interview with a fifth.

Both my grandchildren are autistic............both have had to overcome such a lot in their young lives, but I have great hopes for their future.

I'm so glad that it's recognised better (in the main) these days and that Autie kids can get so much more support. When I was mental health nursing we admitted a lot of teenagers with terrible depression as they felt like misfits, friendless and hopeless.

I hope your Auties continue to do well Keith.

It's recognised better, but the system for getting support it absolutely rubbish. My daughter had to pay for private diagnosis for both her kids as the wait was over two years. She then had to go to court to get proper schooling for them (and won her case both times).

I should say that she is a Director of a charity (and an outreach family worker) that works with children with all sorts of special educational needs. She spends most of her days helping parents cope with the ridiculously slow and paper-bound system that prevents them getting timely support.

I love the square root of 324. Clever T shirt. Our youngest grandson, pictured in the Sunday Challenge photo, is also autistic, but not a savant. he is coming up for 15, and still loves Mickey Mouse. ;-)
