Perhaps Al hasn't realised we are not in the EU anymore, and now we don't get paid for keeping fields empty!

In fairness to Al his field is very close to the R. Parrett and does get flooded in winter fairly frequently :(

Cows are a couple of fields away at the moment - they are escape artists tho’ and have been known to wander towards town!

I used to drive all round here, mainly due to my interest in medieval history and tracing King Alfred's marshland retreat and recovery at Athelney near here.

The levels do have some interesting history - perhaps my Scandi ancestors were amongst those getting their feet wet searching for Alfred …

AND just had a thought ... could Al refer to King Alfred, do you think?

There are two churches within half a mile from one another here, one in Langport and the other in the adjoining Huish Episcopi. This is the tower of the now deconsecrated one in Langport.
