Bowl with Saints Peter and Paul in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, March 2010
Bowl with Saints Peter and Paul
Terracotta with green glaze
Roman or Byzantine, found in a catacomb on the Via Appia, Rome
Made about 350
Inscribed in Latin: Peter, Paul

Accession # 52.25.1

Regularly spaced on the exterior are Christograms, monograms for Christ's name, framed in martyr's wreaths. Saints Peter and Paul appear on the interior base on a medallion similar similar to ones on gold glass vessels.
