Maiden in the Walters Art Museum, September 2009
Woman "Peplophoros"
Creator: Greek (Artist)
Period: 1st century BC (Hellenistic)
Medium: marble (Sculpture)
Accession Number: 23.87
Measurements: 48 1/2 x 21 7/16 x 11 7/16 in. (123.19 x 54.5 x 29 cm)
Geographies: Greece (Place of Origin)
The sculpture is dated to the 1st century BC by its combination of Classical and earlier styles. The drapery folds are similar to those in works of the early 5th century, while the manner in which the garment clings to the back of the body and tapers at the ankles is inspired by 6th-century Archaic sculpture.
