Children at a Cockfight in the Walters Art Museum, September 2009

Children at a Cockfight in the Walters Art Museum, September 2009
Three People Watching a Cock Fight

Creator: Greek (Artist)

Period: ca. 330-100 BC (Hellenistic)

Medium: terracotta (Ceramics)

Accession Number: 48.1714

Measurements: 3 15/16 x 5 3/4 x 2 in. (10 x 14.7 x 5.1 cm)

Geography: Samsun, Turkey (Place of Discovery)

Made in ancient Amisos (present-day Samsun) along the Black Sea coast of Asia Minor, the relief is a rare example of a multi-figured terracotta group and may well have been inspired by a work in another medium. The child on the right mimics the pose of the famous statue of the "Weary Heracles" (Archaeological Museum, Naples, Italy).
