Seen in Royal Observatory Greenwich.

Dava Sobel 's book (with William J.H. Andrewes), Longitude, an illustrated edition gives an excellent description of the search for accurate timekeeping which was of utmost importance for navigation at sea

No he didn't the H1 was tested in 1736 during a voyage to Lisbon. The H4 was tested during a voyage to Jamaica in 1764. Capt.Cook used a precise copy of the H4 named K1 with him on his voyage in 1768/69 during which he also intended to observe the Venus transition
