At the Batterie Todt, number 4 bunker, near Calais — once a German gun which could fire far enough to reach England.
Found, by chance, with refreshing lack of healh-and-safety mania, or indeed "restoration".
This whole place was a really powerful antidote to the experience I had at Oradour (see later in this set) where the well-intentioned "preservation" of the place had robbed it of all emotion for me.
