Cactus (Opuntia ficus-indica) or Prickly Pear

Cactus (Opuntia ficus-indica) or Prickly Pear
Spotted in the Rock Garden, Southsea Hampshire. I had no idea what variety it is as it wan't labelled, but I liked its colours and the spikes. I've since been told it's a Prickly Pear ((Opuntia ficus-indica).

Berny, trester88, Jean-luc Drouin, Frans Schols and 17 other people have particularly liked this photo

It's a great looking cactus Keith. I remember my parents having a cactus like this. Apparently you can eat these if you are desperate for food, but it would take a lot for me to even consider that!!!!!

Glad you like it Jenny..........it was the colours that made it stand out for me.

Xata (above) says the fruit is delicious, but I doubt we'd get any in our shops here, so I doubt I'll ever get the chance to find out for myself.
