The Big Pond
This is a natural pond that borders our property. We get many beautiful visitors and some that even stay for awhile.

Rainbow Duck
This week in SSC:
"Easter or Spring"
Happy Easter and spring to you all. :)
Every spring there is always an assortment of beautiful ducks that visit the pond near our home. This week we were visited by the rarely seen "Bufflehead" or "Rainbow duck" as I call them (above) because of their iridescent feathers. A pair of "Ringed Neck" ducks that have purple heads with gray and white bills (pic below) also had a good time at the pond this week.
...and for Sight and Sound some music, as always:
Riverside from their album "Rapid Eye Movement" (2007)
Live: Rainbow Box

Momma Merganser
I don't like to shoot in the midday sun but when momma brings the babies out you just have to be there (looks best large.)
This is a female Hooded Merganser with her new brood.
You can see a little video of them here if you like: Momma and babies

Fearless
Even though the pond's resident crocodile looms near, the ducks are fearless.

Ring-Necked Duck
It's an interesting name for this duck since you can barely see a ring around his neck. He should have had a much more suitable name with all his glorious markings and beautiful purple head. Poor guy....

Hello!
"Hello, honk, honk. I'm just in from Canada. Do you have any treats for me?"
He was so cute. He saw me hiding next to the big tree and sounded the alarm. The geese have been enjoying the pond even though it's not much more than a big mud puddle at this point. As you can see he's pushing off of the bottom instead of really swimming. (Looks best full screen 1080p)

Take Five!
This week in SSC:
"Odd Numbers"
These 5 geese were down at the pond today. I've never seen them before and I have no idea what kind they are. They have bright orange feet and lighter orange bills. They're so cute!
For Sight and Sound:
Dave Brubeck
