Hmmm. We're to believe that it's how French and/or British trappers (depends on year) built things on the Great Lakes frontier circa 1760. I've no idea how authentic it might be. I'm far more confident of the site's value as an archeological dig than I am of the details of the reconstructions. More information here, and here

I have never see such roofs in metropolitain France, but one can see them sometimes in the isles like Martinique or Guadeloupe..... Must be a fabulous place to discover when one loves history !
