The White Tower contains mainly suits of armour and weaponry. In the late middle ages a suit of armour could cost as much as a house and was often more of a status symbol than an object of military purpose. Nevertheless, when in use, a knight and horse in full armour at the gallop would be a terrifying sight – the equivalent of a modern-day tank.
