The Little Chapel, Guernsey

The Little Chapel, Guernsey
The broken crockery ('ceramic pieces' is the nicer term used on site) that decorates this chapel inside and outside was donated by Wedgwood potteries and also by local people and dignitaries. The Chapel was started in the early 20th Century by Brother Déodat, a member of a religious order. He planned to create a miniature version of the grotto and basilica at Lourdes, the Rosary Basilica. It has been said to be the smallest functioning chapel in Europe, if not the world, and it is believed to be the world's smallest consecrated church. It holds about 8 people.
