PICT15231ac COSTELLARIIDAE or VEXILLIDAE Family Vexillum citrinum compressa
Also classified in the MITRIDAE Family as these beautiful shells look like a bishop miter; Vexillum citrinum compressa is not from far the most expansive shell of my collection but it is my preferred for color shape and texture; Another form exists that I search where orange color is replaced by clear yellow lemon color (Vexillum taeniatum form filiareginae or Ribboned Miter) but it is a rare shell probably very expansive; It is pictured here on the cover of a Burmese laquer box; My shell is 64 mm long from Philippines; This specie lives in Pacific tropical intertidal waters.
Separate from Mitridae Family: Just anatomic differences of the soft parts of the animal plus the aperture is lirate in Vexillidae and smooth in Mitridae; Vexillidae have strong sharp axial ribs and are often striate; France Clichy Home.

Amts, Jacques
