Ancient Process to compare with actual Arcelor-Mital process:
In the blast furnace, iron ore is heated with charcoal; Powerful bellows operated by hydraulic energy permit to reach a temperature exceeding 1500 ° C melting ore; At the base of the blast furnace are poured large iron bars, called "gueuses", big blocks of alloy of iron and carbon; In a second step, these "gueuses" cast are reheated in other ovens of the forge refinery; Large hydraulic bellows boost air on the very hot melting; The carbon content in the iron combines with oxygen to form carbon dioxide which is discharged in smoke; The cast is well decarburised, transformed into pure iron; A large hydraulic hammer can forge iron ingots; These iron ingots are then cut into thin metal rods in the splitting mill; These metal rods will be sold on the markets of the grove craftsmen: blacksmiths, farriers, nailers ...; The Varenne site includes a blast furnace, refinery forges, a splitting mill, a hall to stock iron, and also remains of the ironmaster' house, a chapel and many houses of black smiths that once existed; France Basse-Normandie Region Orne Department Champsecret Village Forges of Varenne.
