Eh yes! I have lived in this city......since 1983!!!!!
In the Middle Ages, it was the main entrance with a portcullis and armed guards. The ramparts surrounded the entire city; there are still beautiful vestiges on the north slope.
....We live outside the ramparts, therefore at the mercy of attacks by bandits, pocket dumpers and epidemics of bubonic plague!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
