That is quite scary Jose. I hope they soon have them under control. A beautiful landscape from a great viewpoint but I really hope that the fires don't cause too much damage.

I am so sorry for all these landscapes that burn in many places since weeks now. So today it's an UFF (Unhappy) for you, José.

For five days, 14 000 hectar as of now.

Are forest fires happening more regularly, or is it better reporting that make it appear that way?

Back from yesterday half answer, no the reporting is the same than 5 years ago, plane and satellite geo location, but for you to take the full measure of it, in the last 24 hours we have to add 7.313 acres to the last figure.

I have seen the fires on TV Jose. So terrible. We have a few here but not on the scale that is affecting Portugal. Let's hope for rain soon.

They have more than 1600 firemen out there and more than 600 fire engines.
It is true the wind is a changing every hour but it seems there are not enough heavy planes.

This time it is high up, more North and East.
There is only one real mountain in here but it falls short by 7 meters to the 2000 meter mark.
Nevertheless can sky during winter but there is, even for the locals, one common mistake:

The region is vast and includes 3 mountains Gardunha, Açor and Estrela.
Almost 40X100 km of high forest criss crossed by deep valleys.
It is hopeless for vehicles and 1600 firemen don't change very much when the wind goes around every 24 hours.
Now, after one week it seems under contol.
