I think they are still kept for "decorativo", in fact most of the land is left without being tendered.

It was tradition to thank God for the gift of food.
This is a granary, the place where cereals were stored, the vertical cuts to let the air pass freely thus drying the yearly crop and the "feet" topped by large rounf stones in order to avoid damaging "visits" by wild rodents….going in to eat all the stored crops.
