How long was the peril, how breathless the day,
In topaz and beryl, the sun dies away,

Visually, I meant. These houses had beautiful ornate brickwork before they were painted.

Having terraced houses painted in different colours isn't something I mind so much. Blue and green however, should never be seen without a colour in between!
