Old car crash shots can be pretty dramatic. Time before safety...

Yes ... but also a time with better drivers. Today's cars are so easy to drive that nearly everyone drives whether they have the skills for it, or not.

I agree. Back then, you knew how to manhandle manual steering and how to parallel park. I heard this tv commercial the other day that spoke about parallel parking. It said you had two options: don't do it or hit somebody else's car. The tv was in a waiting room, so I spoke up to another guy sitting there and said "There's a third option - learn how to drive." He agreed.

Edit: Is that a 1965 model? Here in Illinois, you're exempted from the seat belt law if your car is a 1965 model or older because most of them didn't come with seat belts. I'm thinking, it would be a lot less hassle to drive these days, what with all the roadside "safety checks" the police are always running around here, if I just had my 1964 Chevrolete Biscayne back!

My first thought was a 1965, but it could also be a 1966 with the view we have here. I've been meaning to pull out my photo collection and look at the minor differences and see if I can figure it out. It's 1964 for seat belts requirements here. We had two 1965 Pontiacs which came from the factory with four seat belts. Mom and Dad had two more added and that was long before Indiana had a seat belt law. Too many people depend on airbags to save them and drive like they just stole the car ... and with some of my neighbors ... that may be true! :-)
