My house was built in 1945 and as you can see, it's started settling. Cracks are showing in my dining room wall, way up to the height of the nine and a half foot ceiling. When I poured the concrete steps at the back of my house to the pantry, I needed to place a third stud to mount the handrail on. So, to facilitate this, I had to put in a new beam up at the ceiling. The base of the 4x4 inch stud was sealed in the steps I poured around it. As you can see from the hefty lag bolt I used to mount the stud to the beam, it's going to hold for a long time. I have yet to fit the ceiling panel around this area - that's why it still looks exposed. When my house was built in 1945, I'm pretty sure it didn't have a bathroom. It probably had an outhouse in the backyard. Some previous owner to the people who owned the house before my parents bought it built on this bathroom just off the kitchen. To facilitate a door for it, a barn-type sliding door was added. It is heavy duty and features a display shelf above it. When closed, it resides hidden beside the refrigerator to the left.
