Efke R 100 Black and White Film

Efke Film

Efke film was made by a company that went defunct because the old machinery they were using broke down and couldn't be repaired. It was really good film, which I liked a lot, especially the fact that they still made 127 size film.

Advance Design

1965 Chevrolet Impala

I finally got to use my new Yashica-44a TLR. It was gorgeous out today, in the 70's, so I drove around my town and around the country and shot a whole roll of film in my new camera. This was the very first picture I took, a 1965 Chevy sitting in front of the local auto shop. Camera: Yashica-44a TLR (made in 1959) Lens: Yashikor 60mm, f/3.5 Film: Efke R100 B&W 127 film Shooting program: Manual (of course!) Aperture: f/22 Shutter speed: 1/50 sec. Weeds

Some weeds along a country lane. Just after I took this shot, some deer crossed in front of me a little ways up the lane. Statue Of Three Children

11 Aug 2013 408
The gazebo near the Carmi Public Library, featuring the new bronze statue. The first one was destroyed when a car accidentally ran over it. The camera had two different choices for aperture, a color setting and a black and white setting. I chose the color setting for all the shots with the camera because it was the larger of the two apertures. Camera: Ansco Cadet II Film: Efke R 100 ASA 127 black and white film Aperture: "Color" (other choice was "B&W") Date: August 30th, 2012, 5.38 p.m. Location: Carmi, Illinois, U.S.A. Developing process, chemicals were at 68 degrees: Ilford ID-11: 8 mins. Water stop bath: 1 min. (Efke suggests this and it worked.) Ilford Hypam fixer: 8 mins. Water rinse: 5 mins. 127 Backhoe

Another of the shots taken during the first time I used the Kodak Brownie Holiday 127 camera which was passed down to me from my Grandmother. It doesn't seem to perform well when aimed at the bright sun and produced light flares on some shots. Camera: Kodak Brownie Holiday (made in January 1953) Film: Efke R 100 127 black and white film Aperture: F/11 (approximate) Shutter speed: 1/25 sec. Last Of The Snow

23 Aug 2014 392
A small patch of snow that had almost finished melting just in front of my front porch steps. That's what it looked like only a week and a half ago; but we've gotten three more snowfalls since then. Needless to say, it doesn't look like this anymore and I'm getting tired of seeing only white outside. I'm almost certain the bright patch of light at the top is from a sun flare and not a light leak when handling the film. But, this was the last image on the roll, so I can't be sure. I'm leaning more toward it being a sun flare because part of it extends all the way to the bottom of the frame. Camera: Kodak Brownie Holiday (made in January 1953) Film: Efke R 100 127 black and white film Aperture: F/11 (approximate) Shutter speed: 1/25 sec. (approximate) Date: February 5th, 2010 Location: Norris City, Illinois, U.S.A. Developing process, chemicals were at 68 degrees: Kodak D-76 developer: 9 mins. Ilford Ilfostop stop bath: 90 secs. Kodak fixer: 7 mins. Kodak Photo-Flo 200: 1 min. Holiday 8df

Everything Old Is New Again

07 Sep 2013 339
One of the new "retro" Camaros. In keeping with my theme of using old cameras to make new images, this new Camaro that emulates the looks of the ones from the late-1960's is a perfect subject. Camera: Ansco Cadet II Film: Efke R 100 ASA 127 black and white film Aperture: "Color" (other choice was "B&W") Date: August 21st, 2012, 3.58 p.m. Location: Carmi, Illinois, U.S.A. Developing process, chemicals were at 68 degrees: Ilford ID-11: 8 mins. Water stop bath: 1 min. (Efke suggests this and it worked.) Ilford Hypam fixer: 8 mins. Water rinse: 5 mins. Keep Manhattan Just Give Me That Countryside

An old barn outside Norris City. I've photographed it since the 1970s. The winding knob came out right after this shot, so I didn't get to finish the roll in this camera. Camera: Spartus Rocket ( released circa 1962) Film: Efke R 100 ASA 127 black and white film Date: October 31st, 2011, 3.45 p.m. Location: Norris City, Illinois, U.S.A. Developing process, chemicals were at 68 degrees: Ilford ID-11: 8 mins. Water stop bath: 1 min. (Efke suggests this and it worked.) Ilford Hypam fixer: 8 mins. Water rinse: 5 mins. Honeymoon Cottage

11 Aug 2013 421
I've passed by this house for almost 40 years and it wasn't until just before my Dad died that I found out from him that this house was the first place his younger brother, Deon, lived when he got married for the first time in the early 1960's. This is one of the shots taken with my Spartus Rocket, which I acquired in the 1970's. This is the first chance I've had to use it and, in doing so, the film advance knob broke after three frames. I had to finish the roll in another camera. But, at least I finally got to use the camera. Camera: Spartus Rocket Film: Efke R 100 ASA 127 black and white film Date: October 31st, 2011, 3.35 p.m. Location: Between Brownsville and Norris City, Illinois, U.S.A. Developing process, chemicals were at 68 degrees: Ilford ID-11: 8 mins. Water stop bath: 1 min. (Efke suggests this and it worked.) Ilford Hypam fixer: 8 mins. Water rinse: 5 mins. Macedonia

11 Aug 2013 600
This is the Macedonia Baptist Church, located in Sacramento, Illinois. (A little un-incorporated area about 3 miles from Norris City.) I just found out that Efke is going out of business and shutting down operations and I will be saddened to see them go. I really liked their R100 films. It's been a bad year for film. Camera: Spartus Rocket Film: Efke R 100 ASA 127 black and white film Date: October 10th, 2011, 4.42 p.m. Location: Sacramento, Illinois, U.S.A. Developing process, chemicals were at 68 degrees: Ilford ID-11: 8 mins. Water stop bath: 1 min. (Efke suggests this and it worked.) Ilford Hypam fixer: 8 mins. Water rinse: 5 mins. Open House

11 Aug 2013 1 362
A small, abandoned building in Norris City about 3 blocks from my house. It's my guess that this used to be connected to the railroad line that ran through the heart of town many years ago; that it served some sort of depot building function.
