Waiting for the Tide

It's documentation in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle is proof that the port at Porlock Weir has been in existance for over a thousand years and as one of the few places small ships can land along the rugged Exmoor coast it has had a varied history. The huge tidal range in the Bristol Channel means everything is left high and dry at low water while the houses in the image which are on the shingle bank between sea and harbour regularly have sand bags at the ready. On the Evening Tide.

A strong cold wind accompanies the evening tides arrival but clear skies and low evening sun give a nice clear light. Not an attractive subject but one full of hope for a full restoration,

Seaside Dereliction,

This was the site of Royal Pier Hotel Weston-super Mare, which was destroyed by fire in 2010 and eventually demolished by the local council, sadly this prime site is still undeveloped to this day. The walkway forms a part of the walk from the derelict Birnbeck around the Marine lake and onto the re-developed Knightstone Pier and harbour. (See location map) Graffiti artists have been busy and actually brightens up a very drab area. HFF and a good weekend, but stay safe
