Wilderness View HBM

Just a glimpse of a distant Loch Meadie in this shot from the Bettyhill viewpoint on the A836 which forms a part of the North West 500 Coastal Route around the desolate flat peat bog and moorland of the Flow Country, one of the last true wilderness areas in Europe. While the population of the Flow Country is sparse, it is a popular home for numerous rare plants, insects and birds. Large for detail please. HBM and a great week to you all,

Far North, HFF,

The most northerly fence in Mainland Britain at Dunnet Head in Caithness on a hazy afternoon. The head also marks the western limit of the Pentland Firth and the point it meets the Atlantic Ocean, It's a wild and untamed landscape, with stunning sea cliffs and coastal grasslands which are home to puffins, razorbills, guillemots, fulmars and kittiwakes. A large view may be beneficial, HFF and a good weekend to all.

Latheronwheel, (pip)

Latheronwheel is a small village built in 1835, originally a fishing village, the small scenic harbour was used by boats fishing for herring. Today the harbour is used by a few local people to keep boats for lobster and crab fishing, or for leisure fishing off the Caithness coastline. www.caithnessandsutherland.com ...... Ruined Croft, Sea Stack and cliffs at Latheronwheel Harbour (See pip) A large view may be beneficial HFF and a great weekend,

Castle Varrich,

The ancient seat of the clan Mackay was at Castle Varrich, there are supposedly caves under the castle which is estimated to have been built in the 14th century. I prefer the image large, and please note the heather on the high ground. This is another from the North Coast 500 Series

Harbour Road, HFF

Latheronwheel Harbour, (previously called Janetstown) The Burn of Latheronwheel and bridge over the burn (see pip), This bridge probably dates from the mid 18th century and has a single segmental arch, about 48ft (14.6m) in span. The road back up from the harbour is steep and has a hairpin bend, (I prefer it large) HFF and a good weekend to all.

Slow Burn.

This footbridge gives access to Farr Beach when the Clachan Burn is running fast. This image and the lack of water show how little rain has fallen in the area recently. The burn runs onto the Beach and then into Bettyhill Bay (out of image to the left) Pictures from the beach and bay to follow, Another image from the North Coast 500, Still having internet problems but will try and keep up, I think a large view is beneficial. HFF and a nice weekend.
