Further along the road on the same trip as the previous photo I found this couple failing to get a flat tyre changed. The wheel nuts were very tight. Even with the other guy and myself on my 4 way brace couldn't loosen them. I had a look around and after a while found this old farm gate which was made from pipe. After dragging it to the car we put the open end over the car's wheel spanner. The additional leverage loosened the nuts easily. The photo shows the wheel-changing happening. December 2017.

Good thinking about the gate. I think the problem is from tyre shops and their hydraulic spanner settings (or lack of them)..

That is EXACTLY the problem. In our other (main) car I keep a length of gal water pipe and for the Kingswood I have a steel pipe at home which goes over the wheelbrace and loosen the nuts after any wheel work is done.
