The Abbey of San Grato, Sordevolo (Biella)

The Abbey of San Grato, Sordevolo (Biella)
The Abbey with adjoining the Oratory of San Grato, which is located on the hill above the village of Sordevolo in the province of Biella, was erected in the mid-seventeenth century, probably in order to obtain protection of San Grato against epidemics plague that raged at that time in the territories. The Abbey is also remembered for having given hospitality to famous poets of the late 800, which Giacosa, Carducci, Boito and Duse, who in the tranquility of this secluded spot they could find the inspiration to compose their dramas and their works.
