CN Tower
The CN Tower in Toronto was opwnws in 1975 and for the next 32 years or so Toronto couldn't shut up about it. It was the world's tallest free-standing structure! It had a revolving restaurant! It was world-class. Then it was knocked out of first place and is now tenth. It's still worth a visit, though.

My apologies to everyone whose comments I managed to lose.These included comments about the grace of the streetcar/tram wires, the attractiveness of the tower, and of Keith Burton's visit as a sailor in 1984, I had agreed that the tower was better-looking than many other towers and that the wires added interest to the view, and noted in response to Keith that I enjoyed visiting the tower myself.
