Gaiya at six months
Lost Creek Ranger Gaiya, six months old and growing like the proverbial weed ... as in, range-y and kinda awkward looking at times.
She's still a PITA to photograph in "clean" poses, but the tradeoff is many more photos with action and character. It's who she is!
Still a delightful personality.
Gaiya's coat has faded considerably — the baby undercoat is particularly susceptible to pigment loss from weathering, and guard hair (which is prone to tip fading) is still growing out at this age. Guard hairs take two years to reach full length. That's why an ideal working llama coat sheds the undercoat fully and easily so it doesn't have to be shorn, which compromises the guard hair "raincoat."

I still get this crazy grin every time I look at her ... or even a photo.
