Dunstaffnage Castle from south

Dunstaffnage Castle from south
Dunstaffnage Castle near Oban, Scotland, dates back to the 13th century. It is built on a small peninsula with the Firth of Lorne to the west and Loch Etive to the east and north.

This is a view northwards showing the southern aspect of the castle keep, built on an outcrop of Devonian age conglomerate (Kerrera Sandstone Formation).

The archway and walls in the lower left mark the start of the track leading to the nearby Chapel.
