The northern section of the Cardo in Jerusalme stretches from the Damascus Gate to David Street, and dates back to Roman times. The southern section stretches from this point to the length of the western side of the Jewish Quarter and was built in the Byzantine period, in the 6th century AD, continuing the Roman Cardo to its north.

In the southern side of the Cardo a Byzantine level was discovered by archeologists . This level contained beautiful columns which were later restored. Today it is possible to walk along the Cardo just like the ancient Jerusalemites did back in the 6th century. The Crusader’s Bazzar, which was built in the 12th century, is now renovated with modern stores selling ancient history.
