The Cardo - Jerusalem

19 Mar 1974 14 14 175
The Cardo is depicted in the Madaba Map, part of a floor mosaic dated to the 6th century. It was comprised of a central lane, open to the sky, for the passage of carriages and animals, flanked on each side by colonnaded covered walkways for pedestrians. The road is paved with stone slabs and is 22.5 meters wide. In some sections of the Cardo, excavations revealed covered stalls and workshops that stood alongside the walkways.

The gates were moved in 2007 so that they are now a stand-alone structure. The Knesset; The Parliament, lit. "the gathering" or "assembly" is the unicameral national legislature of Israel.

The Shrine of the Book (Hebrew: היכל הספר‎, Heikhal HaSefer) is a wing of the Israel Museum in the Givat Ram neighborhood of Jerusalem that houses the Dead Sea Scrolls. The Hebrew Bible is the cornerstone of the Jewish people and this fundamental text has left its imprint on Christianity and Islam. The Shrine of the Book was built as a repository for the first seven scrolls discovered at Qumran in 1947. The unique white dome embodies the lids of the jars in which the first scrolls were found. In the back you see the Knesset Parliament. PIP the usual photo of the Knesset

Rodin´s Adam seems to be pointing to the bronze statue of Balzac, which was stolen in 1911 during the renovation of the Museum When Honoré de Balzac died, the city fathers commissioned a great bronze statue of the realist Balzac. Balzac was renowned for his larger-than-life personality and for his exuberant personal life. The commissioners of the sculpture found an equally over-the-top realist sculptor to make the statue, Auguste Rodin. Rodin tracked down every daguerreotype and drawing of Balzac. He interviewed Balzac’s mistresses and intimates and went to Balzac’s tailor for exact measurements. He took casts from Balzac’s death mask and did everything but exhume his corpse . Then Rodin made a brash sculpture of the great novelist standing nude, with his legs apart and his arms crossed, brooding upon the human comedy.
