My sister & her family lived in El Granada in the early 90s, but we never checked out the area in any detail. IIRC there's a state or county park not too far away with young (2nd growth) sequoias. My most vivid memory is of the bumper-to-bumper traffic over the hill to San Mateo when Hwy 1 was closed-- ;)

Well, they don't have the problem with the 1 being closed at Devil's Slide, but the area still has atrocious traffic on the weekends. There's redwoods and multiple parks along the peninsula, but I suspect the park you're thinking of is Big Basin that stretches from CA-1 into the mountains down near Santa Cruz, about 30 miles south of this point .
