First time I'd noticed a traffic signal specifically for the bike lane. From what I had experienced, cyclists in Berlin were like everywhere else, with very many regularly ignoring traffic signs.

The downtown bike lane with these signals Robin mentions involved a two-way protected bike lane on a one-way street, so the lights have to have a special phase for bicyclists to keep car from making left turns into oncoming bikes. They installed this sometime last year. My personal view as a bicyclist is that it just complicates things and gives everybody an extra shot at messing something up, but the majority of the vocal bike community disagrees with me on this. I'll have to go down and get a picture of it.
