Tuktoyaktuk & the DEW line
Tuktoyaktuk was, again, somewhat disconcerting. It was a native village, but all of the housing was fairly modern, small, prefab units. Also disconcerting were the extensive radar facilities -- Tuktoyaktuk was one of the sites of the DEW line . See map.

I had a flickr contact who live in Whitehorse, but whose job as an environment consultant constantly took him to little outposts like this all across northern Canada. I was always jealous of him.

Just the brief traveling around that I did up there affected how I felt about nature, indigenous people, development, war, and the extraction industries. The way things are going, the area that is ice in this view will soon be open water, and the land will probably have oil companies...
