Klondike highway 533a1

After Whitehorse, I headed north on the Klondike highway to Dawson City. The highway doesn't feel quite as remote as did the Cassiar -- there are more small villages along the way, and all of the highway is paved.

Looking off into the distance, from the highway, one gets the sense of traveling through vast, empty space -- which makes it hard to realize that in 1898 the river in the adjacent pictures had sternwheeler steamboats on them packed with miners, equipment, and gold during the Klondike Gold rush.
