I've been toying with starting kayaking, I've a former colleague who kayaks a lot and loves it, and I respect him, so that got me thinking. Everything I know about them fits with Blue's statement, easy to maneuver both in the water and onto the top of a car.

From what I can tell, they seem quite safe. BUT, haven't done it myself either. Once summer is over and the sun isn't so hot, I'm going to go try them on the Salton Sea. The state parks was offering a kayak tour for people with no experience, but apparently due to funding problems, they've stopped.
