Modern wind turbines are typically placed about 7 rotor diameters apart. Recent studies suggest that's about half as far apart as they need to be to prevent air turbulence from forming interference patterns that drastically weakens the efficiency of the turbine and the resulting output. From the look of this photo, I suspect you could take out two of every three of these and still have the remaining turbines too close together.

I've mentioned before, I have problems with these things.

I think these are actually newer installations of larger blades, so much less close together than the older wind farms. One of my main concerns is harm to bird life and my understanding is that the larger ones, being slower turning, are less harmful. Still, their footprint means lots of service roads and other activities that interfere with habitat. I'm particularly bothered with how they've come to dominate the landscape around Tehachapi.
