Goshen, UT Tintic mill (639)
Very visible on a hillside east of Goshen (which is east of Elberta) is this 8-story structure. From a distance it looks like something from a Hollywood Sci-fi movie about lost civilizations. I later found out it was an abandoned mill and the round tanks had been for the cyanide that was used in processing.

Note the railroad tracks in the bottom of the picture above. More than in recent trips, I began to be really aware of how many small railroads had been built in the early 1900's to supply mining towns and other activities. The roadbeds can be seen in much of the west, usually without tracks or cross-ties. It was unclear whether these tracks were still in use, though they were overgrown which would suggest they're not used frequently.
