Liechtenstein - June 2008

Mon 9 June 2008 – 1535hrs (Local time) - Buchs (CH): The buses of LBA (Liechtenstein Bus Anstalt) venture into the neighbouring country of Switzerland meeting up with the buses of RTB, (Rheintal Bus), the transport authority operating in the eastern part of the Swiss canton of St. Gallen. Left: LBA 21 (FL 28521), a natural gas powered MAN two-axle bus, is passed by RTB 320 (SG 297507), a diesel bus also manufactured by MAN.

Mon 9 June 2008 – 1539hrs (Local time) - The buses of LBA (Liechtenstein Bus Anstalt) venture into the neighbouring countries of Austria and Switzerland. Service 13 starts at Buchs (SG) in Switzerland travels through Liechtenstein and terminates at Feldkirch in Austria. Natural gas powered MAN two-axle bus 11 (FL 9580) was about to leave Buchs as the 1543 service.

Mon 9 June 2008 – 1539hrs (Local time) - The buses of LBA (Liechtenstein Bus Anstalt) venture into the neighbouring countries of Austria and Switzerland. Service 13 starts at Buchs (SG) in Switzerland travels through Liechtenstein and terminates at Feldkirch in Austria. Natural gas powered MAN two-axle bus 11 (FL 9580) was about to leave Buchs as the 1543 service.

Mon 9 June 2008 – 1539hrs (Local time) - The buses of LBA (Liechtenstein Bus Anstalt) are operated by contractors. The buses carry the Swiss Post logo with the name of the contracted operator, in this case Ivo Matt A.G. of Mauren, the company which operates nearly all of Liechtenstein’s buses as well as some postal delivery trucks. The red and blue stripes represent the Liechtenstein flag colours.

Mon 9 June 2008 – 1553 hrs (Local time) - A small number of buses operated by Ivo Matt A.G., the main contractor to LBA (Liechtenstein Bus Anstalt), carry the Swiss Postbus livery but with LBA logos. These buses tend to appear on school runs and peak hour service workings. FL 28503, a Setra S315, was seen at Buchs (SG), Switzerland on its first of two afternoon peak round trips from here to Balzers. We travelled on this bus to Vaduz, the Liechtenstein capital.

Tues 10 June 2008 - 0924 hrs (Local time) - The buses of LBA (Liechtenstein Bus Anstalt) venture into the neighbouring countries of Austria and Switzerland. Service 14 is a Monday to Friday service operating direct from Vaduz to the Austrian town of Feldkirch. Natural gas powered MAN two-axle bus 12 (FL 28512) was on the approach to the northbound bus stand outside the post office building in Aulestrasse, Vaduz. The steeple of the Parish Church and Cathedral of St. Florin stands beyond.

Tuesday 10 June 2008 (0924) - LBA (Liechtenstein Bus Anstalt) 8 (FL 2138), a two axle diesel powered MAN bus, was seen heading north along Aulestrasse, Vaduz as it arrived on the 0850 service 21 from Malbun. It would turn round further up the street and work the 0933 service back to the same mountain village, a popular ski-resort in the winter months. We took a ride on that trip to Triesenberg. The Government Building is partly visible over the rear end of the bus and the Parish Church and Cathedral of St. Florin on the far right.

Tuesday 10 June 2008 (0929) - The interior of LBA (Liechtenstein Bus Anstalt) 8 (FL 2138), a two axle diesel powered MAN bus, as it was about to work the 0933hrs service from Vaduz to the mountain village of Malbun, a popular ski-resort in the winter months. We took a ride on this bus to Triesenberg. All the MAN buses are to the same high standard fitted with identical seating material, clock and ceiling mounted route display. The screen on the rear of the drivers cab is for real time passenger information.

Tuesday 10 June 2008 (0933) - There was only a handful of passengers on board LBA (Liechtenstein Bus Anstalt) 8 (FL 2138), a two axle diesel powered MAN bus, for the 0933hrs service from Vaduz to the mountain village of Malbun. Just before departure time a school party appeared to travel out for a day in the countryside. They were all well behaved and each of them carried a sharpened stick for their ramble either with a cork or piece of polystyrene on the tip to protect from injury.

Tuesday 10 June 2008 (0949) - LBA (Liechtenstein Bus Anstalt) 8 (FL 2138), a two axle diesel powered MAN bus, was working the 0933hrs service from Vaduz to Malbun. We had travelled from Vaduz on this bus and changed on to service 22 at Triesenberg to continue to Gaflei. This view was taken as we left Triesenberg from the back seat of the Gaflei bus, a Mercedes-Benz O 815D Vario (FL 7760) operated by Philipp Schädler of Triesenberg.

Tuesday 10 June 2008 (1006) - LBA (Liechtenstein Bus Anstalt) service 22 from Triesenberg to Gaflei is contracted to Philipp Schädler of Triesenberg who uses this Mercedes-Benz O 815D Vario small capacity bus on the service. FL 7760 seen at the Gaflei terminus, 1487 metres above sea level which is 1032 metres higher than Vaduz in the valley below. The bus had just worked the 0947 service from Triesenberg. A ski-rack is fitted at the rear.

Tues 10 June 2008 - 1006 hrs (Local time) - Postauto A.G., the Swiss post bus company, was the successful bidder to operate the LBA (Liechtenstein Bus Anstalt) bus service network for the ten year period 2001-2011 (and has again been so since 2011). Postauto sub-contracts actual operations to local bus companies and both the Postauto name and the name of the operator are carried on the buses. Service 22 from Triesenberg to Gaflei is contracted to Philipp Schädler of Triesenberg and this photograph shows the names carried on the side of FL 7760, a Mercedes-Benz O 815D Vario.
